Electricity restored to 99 pc of households in Dhading after flash floods

KATHMANDU: Electricity has been restored to 99.8% of residences in Dhading district and 96.7% in Nuwakot following severe disruption caused by the Bhotekoshi flash floods on August 26, the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation said.

A technical team from the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) is actively working to restore power to the remaining households in Rasuwa despite adverse weather conditions. Search, rescue, and clearance operations are underway across several hydropower facilities, including Upper Trishuli-3A, Upper Trishuli-3B, Chilime, and Rasuwagadhi.

Essential equipment, including generators and mud pumps, has been airlifted to the sites. Rescue workers have successfully entered the Rasuwagadhi powerhouse, while mini excavators are being used to clear debris at Upper Trishuli-3B.

Alongside immediate grid repairs, the Ministry is prioritising long-term solutions by dispatching solar power units to impacted communities. Helicopter transport has been coordinated to deliver these systems, with 13 office setups and 500 household units dispatched to date, and plans in place to distribute additional systems to 1,268 households in Rasuwa.
